Also known as Brahmi, there are many benefits of Bacopa Monnieri (“Bacopa”), it is no wonder that Bacopa is contained in many popular nootropic stacks. Bacopa was studied and shown to improve memory in older adults (ref). In addition to improving memory, Bacopa was studied and has been noted to reduce anxiety and depression and increased overall cognitive performance. In randomized, placebo controlled, crossover human trial, administration of a proprietary extract of Bacopa monnieri (Bacognize, 300mg/day) to medical students significantly improved (p<0.05) several parameters of cognitive function, including memory, focus and attention (see fig.1). Kumar et al. In another randomized, placebo controlled trial in older adults, positive trends in working memory, attention and focus were seen in the Bacognize® group (300mg/day) compared to placebo. Headapohl et al. Dosage

The dosage is dependent upon the individual, but most individuals should take the dose recommended on the bottle; this product contains 300mg of BaCognize® Bacopa Monnieri per capsule.

Toxicity

Note that we only carry the branded extract of Bacopa Monnieri known as BaCognize®; this is done because the company that produces BaCognize®, Verdure Sciences Inc., has high quality control standards and regularly produces a bacopa product which we feel is better than other vendors’ bacopa extract with less heavy metals. Bacognize® is manufactured in Verdure Sciences’ hands-free, botanicals-only, ISO-certified, NSF GMP-registered facility. There are not any studies which directly relate to the toxicity of Bacopa Monnieri generally. One study in older adults using a dose of 300mg/day notes increased gastrointestinal issues when compared to placebo. Interestingly, some studies of Bacopa noted a repair in stomach lining and protection from ulcers caused by drugs like aspirin (ref).
