Studies show ALCAR supplementation may lessen expected cognitive decline over time, as well as provide neuroprotection by reducing ATP decline correlated with aging. Research shows ALCAR supplementation may also alleviate age related mental and physical fatigue.
The standard dose for Acetyl L-carnitine is between 500-2,000mg daily.
Mode of Action
As opposed to L-Carnitine, ACLAR has greater bioavailability. It is absorbed through the intestinal tract into the bloodstream where it is capable of crossing the blood-brain barrier and then enters the central nervous system.
As a neuro-protectant, ALCAR works by reducing the increase in oxidation and decline in ATP that occurs when neurons are nearing a compound correlated with Alzheimer’s Disease and aging called beta-amyloid pigmentation.
Research shows Acetyl L-carnitine to be well tolerated; no toxic effects related to high-dose ALCAR have been yet reported. L-carnitine supplementation may cause mild gastrointestinal symptoms.
